Interested in pursuing a career in health care? Med Plus is a four-year non-credit program which runs concurrently with students’ academic study.
Learn about and build experience in the health field through this unique co-curricular program that includes job shadowing, networking opportunities with healthcare professionals, skill development workshops and community service projects. In partnership with area hospitals, health organizations and practitioners, Med Plus will provide you with practical experience and the most up-to-date information about the health care sector. This program is highly competitive and will help develop your competitive edge when applying to professional health programs.
Students who complete Med Plus go on to pursue further education in medical, physiotherapy, chiropractic, graduate school and more.
What’s involved?
We help you secure volunteer positions in Niagara where you make valuable connections and gain experience at health-related, community agencies.
Hear about one student’s experience volunteering in Med Plus.
Speaker series and observational visits help Med Plus students connect with health care professionals. Practitioners talk openly about their careers, schooling, the patients/clients with whom they work and insight into industry trends and current issues in their field.
Med Plus students can experience “a day in the life” of a health care professional that allows you to see the skills that are required for the job and how you might fit into that work setting.
Our workshops include opportunities for students to experience and put into practice key skills required in the healthcare industry including: leadership skills, career development, effective communication (oral and written) and medical school application and interview preparation.
Senior students share their experiences and offer support and guidance to first-year Med Plus students.
Students participate in individual and group meetings with the Med Plus Consultant to discuss progress, career plans, volunteer work, course load and the Med Plus curriculum.
