Mapping the New Knowledges (MNK) is Brock’s own graduate student conference. MNK provides a supportive environment for students to showcase the outstanding quality of the research happening on the Brock campus.

Registration and Details
Students have the option of partaking in one of two presentation types – an oral research presentation or a poster presentation.
Oral presentations take place in a twenty-minute timeframe, with ten to fifteen minutes to present, and five to ten minutes for questions from the audience. You are encouraged to follow the format most likely to be used in your discipline. If you are unsure what that is, speak with your supervisor or graduate program director. You will also be required to submit a presentation abstract (maximum 250 words), so our organizing committee can place you in a session with similar presenters and for the conference program. Each group will have four to five presenters. All sessions will be chaired by a PhD student or postdoctoral fellow. Your presentation room will be equipped with a computer, projector and screen. You are welcome to share any sort of visual materials you like.
Students who choose to participate in a poster presentation will create a poster showcasing their research and will need to be available during their assigned poster viewing session to answer questions about their work. You will also need to submit a presentation abstract (maximum 250 words) for the conference program. There are no restrictions on posters, but they must fit on the provided tack board which is 48″ wide and 36″ tall. Posters can be printed through Brock’s Printing Services or in the Brock Library , at your own cost. Some programs have funding available to support students creating research posters, so be sure to check with your supervisor or GPD.
You may use this template to create your poster or create your own.
The templates are set at half scale, this will make the designing easier for students to layout and view on screen. The final product output will be printed at 200 percent to fit the final finished size required.
Students in both Master and PhD level research programs can present in MNK. Postdoctoral fellows and visiting researchers are also able to present.

Not ready to present your research? You can still attend MNK! All graduate students, in course- and research-based programs, at Brock are encourage to attend to support their peers, and learn about the exciting research taking place by students on our campus. MNK is a great place to meet students outside of your discipline and feel connected to the larger graduate studies community. Please make sure you register for the conference as an ATTENDEE.
Students wishing to present at MNK will need to apply before the deadline of March 11, 2022 at 4:00 p.m. No late applications will be accepted.

Before beginning your application to present, you will need to have the following information ready:
- Brock e-mail
- Program of study
- Level of Study (Master’s, PhD, Postdoctoral)
- Supervisor Name
- Presentation Title (This will be displayed in our conference program exactly as entered)
- Maximum of 250 words. Anything more than 250 words will be deleted and will not be included in the conference abstract. Please note, if your abstract contains special symbols, we recommend that in addition to submitting your abstract in the registration form, you also email it to firstname.lastname@example.org with the emailed titled, MNK Conference Abstract – Your Name). Often, special symbols or letters do not appear in our website collection form. If emailing to us, please send as a Microsoft Word document, and not a PDF.)
- Presentation keywords – you may include up to 10 keywords to help us put your presentation in a session with similar presenters
At this time, we are hoping this conference will be able to take place in person, but plans may need to be altered due to COVID-19 health and safety protocols. In that case, we will look at moving to a synchronous, virtual conference on the same date. We will make every effort to provide up to date information as it becomes available.
Conference check-in will open at 8:00 am on the day of the conference. There will be coffee and light refreshments, and you will be given your conference swag bag. You will also be given the location of your presentation. All conference presenters must check-in. The check-in desk for the entire duration of the conference.
At 8:45 a.m. we will begin with opening remarks and a keynote presentation. Conference sessions will begin at 9:30 a.m. and run until 5:00 p.m. Lunch is included and will take place midday.
