Vaccinations

With the successful rollout of vaccines across Canada and in Ontario, 全球电竞直播 has been actively preparing for a significant return to campus in September, including participation in Brock Varsity and Club Sports. Reducing the spread of COVID-19 and ensuring the health and safety of our student-athletes through vaccinations is critical due to the close contact of participants in sport and other factors that make sport participation a higher risk for COVID-19 transmission.

Student–athletes will be required to present their proof of their second dose of COVID-19 vaccination to sport medicine staff prior to their participation.  If you have lost/not received your receipt of COVID-19 vaccination, you may request it from Ontario Public Health at covid19.ontariohealth.ca

Student-athletes who have  pre-registered for tryouts, but cannot provide COVID-19-vaccination documentation on the first day of participation, will not be eligible to participate at that time.

Students who have not received their first or second dose of COVID-19 vaccine are encouraged to register for an appointment through the  provincial booking portal . Pharmacy booking information is also available through the portal.

Students can also contact Brock’s Student Health Services at  brocku.ca/health-wellness-accessibility/student-health-services/covid-vaccine-registration/   to register for Brock facilitated COVID-19 immunization clinic bookings or information about vaccines.

Student-athletes may be eligible to be exempt from mandatory COVID-19 vaccination for participation. To apply for an accommodation, please refer to exemptions below.

Full vaccination is the greatest protection you can have against COVID-19 and its variants. It’s not recommended that individuals wait. If it’s been more than four months since your first dose, you don’t need to restart the series. However, Public Health does recommend you get your second dose as soon as possible to ensure maximum protection. On August 26, 2021, the Medical Officer of Health for the Niagara Region issued guidance that individuals who have either started or completed their COVID-19 vaccine series outside of Canada with a vaccine NOT currently authorized by  Health Canada   restart  their COVID-19 vaccine series with Health Canada authorized COVID-19 vaccines. Patients would be eligible to restart their COVID-19 vaccination series 28 days after receiving their last dose of a non-Health Canada approved vaccine.

Individuals who have been fully vaccinated with a vaccine listed by the  World Health Organization  will be able to attend campus pending their booster shots with a Health Canada approved vaccine. They will be required to upload proof of vaccinations for both vaccination series, including the Ontario Ministry of Health dose administration receipt when available.

If individuals have questions about receiving booster shots, they should consult a physician or Student Health Services.

Yes, in order to participate in varsity and club sports, a student-athlete is required to be vaccinated.

Exemptions

Student-athletes who are unable to be vaccinated for medical reasons or other grounds protected under the Ontario Human Rights Code will be able to submit a request for accommodation. Student-athletes can email  sportsmed@brocku.ca to request a copy of the exemption form starting the week of August 16, 2021. Forms must be submitted no later than Friday, Aug. 27, 2021.

Requests for accommodation will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. For those that are granted exemptions, individual accommodation plans will be created based on both Niagara Region Public Health requirements and 全球电竞直播 health and safety requirements.  Student-athletes who are granted exemptions may experience additional recommendations, restrictions and/or requirements that other student-athletes who are vaccinated may not be required to do. Such restrictions or requirements may include, but are not limited to:  attestations, additional/ongoing COVID-19 rapid antigen screening and/or PCR testing; limitations and/or restrictions for travel and accommodations required for competitions; and additional health and safety measures.

Rapid Antigen Screening

Brock Sports currently is using the Abbott Panbio Covid-19 Rapid Antigen Nasal Test.

A rapid antigen screen protocol will be established with each team based on a risk assessment. This may include rapid antigen screening from September 4 through to September 30, 2021. After October 1,2021, only those student-athletes that are exempt from mandatory COVID-19 vaccination will be required to take part in rapid antigen screening.

If this is the case, student-athletes will be required to begin to self-isolate and follow Niagara Region Public Health protocols. Student-athletes will need to book an appointment for PCR testing at the nearest COVID-19 testing center .  If you have any questions, please contact sportsmed@brocku.ca .
