The SCLA program is an interdisciplinary and interfaculty program that not only focuses on the study of literature from different nations but also examines the ways in which literature enters into dialogue with the fine and performing arts. Throughout the program, students examine contemporary approaches to texts of various types, as well as the possibilities and problems that arise in comparative studies, including issues related to the translation and adaption of works.

  • MRP – 3 terms (1 year)
  • Thesis – 4 terms (16 months)

Admission requirements

  1. Check the university requirements and the program requirements . *Note* Students entering the program must have a reading knowledge of at least one language other than English.
  2. Complete the online application  and submit the non-refundable application fee.
  3. You will need to submit your transcripts as well as the following program-specific materials:
    • Two references are required.
    • A resume outlining your educational and professional experience.
    • A Statement of Intent indicating your reasons for pursuing this degree and your thoughts on possible strategies for dealing with an interdisciplinary approach to the study of literature and the other arts. This is particularly important given that applicants will normally have obtained an undergraduate degree with a single or combined major, but one that does not necessarily entail comparative analysis across the arts.
